The Lawrence Hopewell Trail joins REI Co-Op in encouraging everyone to opt outside with family and friends, rather than shopping on Black Friday, November 23, 2018.

For the fourth year, REI Co-op has closed on Black Friday and paid its employees to get outside.  In the world of retail, this is an extraordinary move, but one the LHT admires.  Instead of driving sales, REI encourages its employees to enjoy precious time outside with family and friends.   #OptOutside is not just about Black Friday.  It has become a mindset.  It is about choosing to spend more time outside all year round and of recognizing the importance the outdoors has on our health and well-being.

The LHT and REI believe that this effort can play an important role in bringing people together to celebrate family and friends and our shared enjoyment of the trail and the beauty of the outdoors.  We encourage you to take this opportunity to meet someone new on the trail or to greet someone at the Trail Mix poster.  You will find that there is more we share in common than divides us.

Trail Mix is a program of casual gatherings on the LHT for people to ride, run, or walk with friends new and old.  When you encounter a Trail Mix poster (the picture above), stop for a photo and email us or tag us on social media with #LHTrailMix2018 to enter a drawing for a $50 REI gift card for the most people in a photo or two random drawings.
