AREA TRAILS
Lawrence and Hopewell Townships have a unique quality. Centered between the Delaware River, piedmont, southern highlands, and coastal plains, there is much to see and do. There are many parks and preserved lands with an abundance of trails that allow the visitor to explore the diverse array of natural areas. Here is a list of some of the trails located in the area:
Baldpate Mountain – The woods at Baldpate Mountain have over 12 miles of marked trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and trail running. A walk to the grassy summit of Baldpate, the highest point in Mercer County, offers a spectacular view of the Delaware River and the City of Trenton. Trail Guide
Carson Road Woods – Carson Road Woods is Lawrence Township’s largest municipal parkland, dedicated to passive recreation, and held in trust for future generations to enjoy. The 183-acre parcel is a mix of forest and fields with many natural trails.
Circuit Trails – Greater Philadelphia is the proud home of the Circuit Trails, a vast regional network of hundreds of miles of multi-use trails that is growing in size each year. The Circuit connects our local communities, providing endless opportunities for recreating and commuting. So, whether you bike it, walk it, or run it, the point is — just enjoy it. Trail Finder Tool
Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park – The 70-mile Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park is one of central New Jersey’s most popular recreational corridors for canoeing, jogging, hiking, bicycling, fishing and horseback riding. The canal and the park are part of the National Recreation Trail System. This linear park is also a valuable wildlife corridor connecting fields and forests. Trail Maps
D & R Greenway– D&R Greenway Land Trust works to preserve and protect a permanent network of natural lands and open spaces in central New Jersey. Our mission is to provide appropriate public access to these areas and encourage active lifestyles and a greater appreciation of the natural world. D&R Greenway has constructed approximately 20 miles of trails in partnership with our trails volunteers and site stewards. Take a walk through one of our preserves!
East Coast Greenway in NJ – The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states, 450 cities and towns, and 3,000 miles of people-powered trails from Maine to Florida —the country’s longest biking and walking route. Map Tool

Mercer County Park – Mercer County Park encompasses over 2,500 acres covering areas of the Townships of West Windsor, Hamilton and Lawrence. The Park has year-round facilities for all ages and includes both active and passive recreational opportunities.
Mercer Meadows – Mercer Meadows consists of more than 1,600 acres, divided among five separate districts. Miles of mowed and gravel trails provide visitors and their families with scenic walking and biking routes through the meadows and woodland. Fishing is a popular activity at the park’s four water bodies.
New Jersey Trails Association – (NJTA) provides places to walk and gives you information on over 70 locations to explore.
Watershed Institute – The Watershed Institute is located on the Watershed Reserve in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, N.J. Created with an initial gift of 400 acres from Dr. Muriel Gardiner Buttinger in 1969, the reserve now spans nearly 1,000 acres of forest, wetlands, meadows and farmland. More than 10 miles of hiking trails wind through these habitats and pass by two historic farmsteads that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. We invite you to explore our trails, observe the antics of waterbirds at Wargo Pond and enjoy the wild sights and sounds of nature. Trail Map
