Our first phase of Art on the Trail, a celebration of Landscapes inspired by the LHT, has come to a close. Now, it’s time to celebrate those inspiring contributions from local artists – professional and amateur, across various media, each creator taken with different scenes along our 22 miles of trail. Currently, we are accepting new art featuring LHT Flora and Fauna. Keep creating, we can’t wait to see your work. And, be sure to check out previously featured artists in our gallery for inspiration.

Meet Lauren Turkowski – a Lawrenceville resident who works as a fashion buyer and takes lovely photographs of her favorite hiking and beach spots as a hobby. Fun fact: Lauren’s initials are LHT!

LHT: Can you share a biography or Artist’s Statement?
Lauren: I live in Lawrenceville and work as a fashion buyer for a retailer. I enjoy spending my free time walking in Mercer meadows. One of my favorite things to do is watch the sunset from Reed-Bryan Farm.

LHT: How long have you been creating? What inspired you to start or restart creating art?
Lauren: I’ve been taking nature photography for the last ten years. Seeing nature’s beauty with my eyes inspires me to take a photo to share the beauty. I was inspired to pick up photography as a hobby, after a trip to Yellowstone National Park.

LHT: What is your preferred medium or media?
Lauren: Photography.

LHT: Is all your artwork inspired by nature?
Lauren: Yes! My favorite photos are inspired by hiking trails and beaches.

LHT: What about the LHT inspires you? What are your favorite segments?
Lauren: My favorite segment of the LHT is Willow Pond in Mercer Meadows. It is a great spot to take photos year around and to see how beautifully nature changes season to season.

LHT: How did you discover the LHT?
Lauren: I discovered the LHT by living close by and hearing about it from my friends and family.

LHT: Do you have advice or messages for other artists (adults, kids, novices, pros) encouraging them to get outside and create art inspired by the LHT?
Lauren: Get inspired by what’s around you! The LHT is filled with beauty, and each turn is a new opportunity to take a picture.
