Section 1 - Brearley House Connector

Description:  Section 1 of the LHT starts at the junction with the  D&R Canal Towpath. This junction is between the Province Line Road access and the Route 1 bicycle Pedestrian overpass. It is approximately one-third of a mile from the canal to the edge of the woods at the Brearley House -Great Meadow Trail. The Brearely House, built in 1761, is also the home of the Lawrence Historical Society.  From there you can go out to the gravel Meadow Road and on to the bike lane on Princeton Pike, or on the stone dust trail through the fields to the Princeton Pike Corporate Center off Lenox Drive in Lawrence Township, NJ.  Use the sidewalk along Princeton Pike to cross at the lights.

Section 2 - Brandywine-Princeton Pike Corporate Center

Description:  Section 2 passes through the Princeton Pike Corporate Center  using the northeastern branch of Lenox Drive and then continues down the sidewalk along Princeton Pike.  Please use the stop light to cross Princeton Pike toward the Brearley Oak. This new segment opened in December 2012 . A cross walk button is planned for this  crossing Princeton Pike.

From the building at 2000 Lenox Drive, the trail becomes stone dust and connects to the Brearley House and the D&R Canal tow path, part of the East Coast Greenway.

Section 3 - Lewisville Road

Description:  This beautiful new section runs from the crossing of Princeton Pike at the Brearley Oak, to the crossing of Lewisville Road onto the campus of the Lawrenceville School.

Follow the short connector across the athletic fields on campus and turn left toward the interior service road. The LHT continues on road on campus to the gate at Rte 206.

Directions:  Located at Princeton Pike and Lewisville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.

Status:  At present this section is on Lewisville Road, the road is lightly traveled during non-rush hour times and has well marked shoulders and is appropriate for bike travel of all ages as there are long sight lines. This is open and marked in BLUE.

Section 4 - The Lawrenceville School

Description:  Section 4 of the LHT passes through The Lawrenceville School campus between Lewisville Road, crossing the school’s athletic fields, on the grass/dirt trail toward the interior road which leads around the hockey rink through campus and toward the school’s main gates on  Route 206 (Main Street) in Lawrence Township, NJ.

Status:  Completed and open to all types of bicycles and pedestrian traffic. Trail open. Marked in BLUE. Note: If travelling toward Main Street, after passing athletic fields and approaching the back of the hockey rink, go around the rink to the right to stay on the trail. The route to the left will lead to the corner near Route 206 and I-95

Section 5 - Main Street Lawrenceville

Description:  Section 5 uses existing roadways and the right-of-way of the former Johnson Trolley Line to navigate historic Downtown Lawrenceville from Route 206 (Main Street) to Craven Lane in Lawrence Township, NJ. the trail then turns to pass the Lawrenceville Elementary School toward Village Park

Section 6 - Craven Lane

Description: Section 6 of the LHT uses Craven lane,  from the former Johnson Trolley Line to pass the Lawrenceville Elementary School to Bergen Street and onto Village Park in Lawrence Township, NJ. We hope to improve the stone dust segment of the one-block segment between Craven and Phillips later this year.

Section 7 - Village Park

Description: Section 7 of the LHT passes through the over 60 acres of Village Park from Craven Lane-Bergen Street to Keefe Road in Lawrence Township, NJ where it meets the edge of  the new Mercer Meadows County Park.

Section 8 - Mercer Meadows County Park – Pole Farm Section

Description: The entire 1,000+ acre park, formerly known as Mercer County Park Northwest has a new look. The LHT segments are nearly complete and construction is underway to add amenities throughout the park.  The already spectacular destination encompasses Rosedale Park, Curlis Lake and the Equestrian Center with the LHT passing through all the sections.   The LHT connects many sections of the new park but there will also be other trails and specific areas highlighting the park’s historic telecommunications, industrial and agricultural uses as well as its many spectacular natural areas. This section runs from  Keefe Road to Blackwell Road in Lawrence Township, NJ.

Status: Stone dust surface. Open to pedestrian traffic, hybrid, trail or mountain bikes recommended, road bikes possible for experienced riders.  Trail open. Marked in BLUE. Access note: Cold Soil Road from Lawrenceville has wide shoulders , bike lanes and sidewalks to the corner of Keefe Road.

Section 9 - Mercer Meadows County Park – Hunt House to Rosedale

Description: The entire 1,000+ acre park, formerly known as Mercer County Park Northwest has  a new look. The LHT will connect many sections of the new park but there will also be other trails and specific areas highlighting the parks historic telecommunications, industrial and agricultural uses as well as its many spectacular natural areas. Construction for Phase 3, which will connect the Hunt House to Rosedale Lake will be finished in the spring of 2013.

This section of the LHT continues north and passes the historic 1760 Hunt House at Blackwell Road and then through heavily wooded sections to the pond and Rosedale Lake, meandering through parkland to Federal City Road in Hopewell Township, NJ. The restored and refurbished Hunt House is the home of the Mercer County Parks Commission as well and the offices of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.

Section 10 - Mercer Meadows County Park - Curlis Lake, Equestrian Center, Old Mill Road

Description: This trail segment connects Rosedale Lake with the woods around Curlis Lake and the Equestrian Center; all part of the new Mercer Meadows County Park. Trail construction is finished and amenities like the big dog park off Federal City Road are being built this year. When complete, it will highlight the natural beauty and wildlife found in the park. Observations posts and bird blinds are also planned. This section of the LHT will  loop behind the Equestrian Center and near the Master Gardener’s site and cross Federal City Road again and continue down Old Mill Road.  The bridge is now  open  and offers a beautiful look at the Stony Brook and the woods.

Phase III construction to connect the trail to the crossing at Rocky Hill Pennington Road and Bristol-Myers Squib Hopewell  should begin in the spring of 2013. When complete, the trail will go back off road and continue to  the end of the park at Pennington-Rocky Hill Road, and the  Hopewell Campus of Bristol-Myers Squibb on Pennington-Rocky Hill Road in Hopewell Township, NJ. At present, please use Old Mill Road, cross Pennington-Rocky Hill Road with caution and access the LHT on the opposite side of the road.

Section 11 - Bristol-Myers Squibb Hopewell Campus

Description: Section 11 of the LHT runs along the perimeter of the Hopewell campus of Bristol-Myers Squibb on Pennington-Rocky Hill Road from Old Mill Road to Titus Mill and Wargo Roads in Hopewell Township, NJ.

There is construction on a small segment of this trail extending toward Pennington where the trail will cross Pennington-Rocky Hill Road and cross into the new section of trail at the northeast edge of Mercer Meadows County Park.

Section 12 - Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association Preserve

Description: Passing the fields of the Honey Brook Organic Farm, the LHT runs along Wargo Road in the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association nature preserve from Titus Mill Road to Bradford Lane in Hopewell Township, NJ. Near the parking lot for the organic farm, the trail continues on Wargo Road. Use caution when entering the roadway.

Section 13 - Princeton Farms Neighborhood

Description: Residential neighborhood bordered by the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association Preserve, Wargo Road, Moores Mill Mount Rose Road, and Pennington-Rocky Hill Road in Hopewell Township, NJ. This section of the trail is open but unmarked at present as its connection at the other end is not yet finalized.

Section 14 - Hillman Open Space

Description:  Owned and preserved as open space by the Delaware & Raritan Greenway Land Trust, the LHT will pass through a portion of what is known as the Hillman Property off of Pennington-Rocky Hill Road and Bailey Court in Hopewell Township, NJ.

Section 15 - Old Whiskey House Run

Description:  At Bailey Court, the LHT passes the historic Whiskey House and continues along Pennington-Rocky Hill Road in Hopewell Township, NJ.

Section 16 - Radio Towers Property

Description:  From Pennington-Rocky Hill Road, the LHT will pass through property where radio towers are visible and connect with land owned by the Berwind Property Group on Carter Road in Hopewell Township, NJ.

Section 18 - Princeton University Nature Preserve

Description:  Princeton University conserves land between Cleveland Road and the Educational Testing Service (ETS) that could one day host the LHT, and link Hopewell Township to Lawrence Township, NJ.

Section 19 - Educational Testing Service (ETS)

Description: Section 19 of the LHT loops through the park-like campus of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) at Carter and Rosedale Roads in Lawrence Township, NJ.

If you want to visit the newly restored pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Stony Brook, use the mowed path on the pipeline right of way out to Province Line Road. This is one of the most beautiful segments of the LHT. Then continue your journey on road out  to Pretty Brook and Cleveland.

Section 20 - Mya Drive – Carson Road Woods Public Park

Description: The route here is one of the more scenic areas in Lawrence Township. From the south, the trail section will begin at the Carson Road Woods crossing from  Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Lawrenceville Campus, through the park and exit on  Belleview Terrace, going left or west around to exit on Mya Drive, cross Rosedale and connect to the trail at ETS. If you are starting your ride in this area, please park at ETS, or in the  lot at Carson Road Woods. Be respectful of our neighbors.

Section 21 - Bristol-Myers Squibb Lawrenceville

Description: The LHT runs along a beautiful, rolling tree-lined path that roughly follows the perimeter of the Lawrenceville campus of Bristol-Myers Squibb, between Carson Road and Province Line Road in Lawrence Township, NJ.

Section 22 - Province Line Road

Description: The LHT will pass along the northern side of Province Line Road from Route 206 to Bannister Drive in Lawrence Township, NJ.

Section 23 - Foxcroft Neighborhood

Description:  No route has been finalized for the LHT through the residential neighborhood beginning at Bannister Drive, encompassing Foxcroft Drive, and ending at Princeton Pike in Lawrence Township, NJ.

Section 24 - Dyson Tract

Description: Off of Princeton Pike near Foxcroft Drive is the Dyson Tract, once a remediation site, this is now a beautiful Lawrence Township park that extends to the D&R Canal towpath. The trail here starts at the crossing of Princeton Pike and Foxcroft and continues about a mile through a former tree nursery before looping around and stopping in the small parking lot opposite the Joseph H. Maher J. Ecological Center.

At present the trail ends here. Riders can carefully use the shoulder and marked bike lane on Princeton Pike to continue toward the Brearley House and our trails at Princeton Pike Corporate Center or the newest section on Lewisville Road.

We are working on a lik here either to the canal tow path or the Brearley House off of Princeton Pike.
