(LAWRENCEVILLE, April 26, 2010) Seven community leaders recently joined the Lawrence Hopewell Trail’s (LHT) Board of Trustees, the nonprofit body that governs the bicycle and pedestrian trail running through Lawrence and Hopewell Townships in Mercer County.

Members of the newly constituted Board of Trustees re-elected Eleanor V. Horne of Lawrenceville and Becky Taylor of Hopewell Township as LHT Co-Presidents for 2010-2011.

“I am honored to be serving again as Co-President and as a member of the Board,” said Horne. “All of us are very excited about our expanded Board. The caliber of the leaders who contribute to our organization is second to none.”

Taylor, credited as the founder of the LHT, said the mission and passion of members have not waivered since she first proposed the idea of the 20+ mile biking and hiking trail nine years ago.

“Our goal is to create a safe environment for residents to bike and walk throughout the entire region,” said Taylor. “We are fortunate that so many public-spirited individuals in our communities continue to be part of the LHT, are eager to give of themselves, and want to make the entire trail a reality.”

Horne and Taylor pointed out that, with the new additions, the LHT Board of Trustees is expanding from ten to seventeen members.

The newly inducted members are:

  • Simi Bakshi, Hopewell Township Resident
  • Wes Brooks, CFO of The Lawrenceville School
  • Jan Gabin, General Counsel of Capital Health
  • Mike Markulec, Mayor, Hopewell Township
  • Lisa McCormick-Lavery, Lawrence Township Resident
  • John Murray, Bristol-Myers Squibb
  • Mark Solomon, Partner, Pepper Hamilton LLP & Hopewell Township Resident
  • Dennis Waters, Lawrence Township Historian & Resident

According to Horne and Taylor, the Board of Trustees ensures the LHT has the resources necessary to carry out its strategic plan in a prudent manner. They say with nearly 60% of the LHT now open and accessible to the public, the Board of Trustees is hoping to complete the full trail route by 2012.
